Some schools just aren’t as strict as others.

In India, a class of kindergartners are already experimenting with their hair. Their teacher says at first she was startled by the sight of her young students coming to class in different hair styles almost every other day. It’s as if they take scissors, hair and mix it up every night – although many styles are not actually cuts, but simply re-styling.

“Some come with spikes, some apply gel, some even come in colours like burgundy and brown,” the teacher adds, and it’s likely they’re inspired by Hollywood and Bollywood actors alike.  Decades-old styles like mushroom, wedge, Chinese and boys’ cut are now passe!

Additionally in India, eauty salons now have hairstylists to cater just to kindergarten kids. The haircuts vary, depending on the shape of the face and the texture of the hair. And when the moms go to the beauty salon, it’s likely their five-year-olds could be accompanying them to get a new look.

An Alabama woman is passing on her knowledge of ethnic hair and her expertise in caring for it, to women in her community. Gerri Darrisaw has been in the health and beauty world for the last 25 years. She’s a wiz with scissors hair and styles and imparts this knowledge to any one who asks!

Her concern about the health and beauty of African-American hair is evident in her desire to educate others. “Too many people of color are losing hair around the hairlines, even our children. I have this urgent desire to give back all of my expertise and experience for such a time as this. With the economy lagging now, that does not mean for us to neglect our health and beauty.”

She’s also concerned that the more “do it yourself” beauty projects are out there, the less safe people will be.

”I’m seeing more torn out edges, ring worms due to unsanitized combs and clippers. The beauty supply stores have too many different kinds of products for nonprofessionals. We’re running into a major problem,” she says.

So she’s putting her knowledge to work for her community and educating people about proper sanitation, proper beauty care and much more!

Any kind of robbery would be traumatic, but imagine being robbed of your hair! That’s apparently what happened to one hotel clerk in Minnesota.

Kristine Rippon claims a man suddenly cut off her ponytail, then ran away – she says the man walked into the hotel and asked her if she would consider cutting her hair, to which she responded that she wasn’t interested. Rippon — who hadn’t cut her hair in 17 years — says the man asked if her hair was real, and she let him touch it. She turned to walk away, but the man grabbed her ponytail and cut it off. And we’re guessing he didn’t use speciality or high-end styling shears! Sounds like he grabbed scissors hair and just ran off!

A witness told Ramsey police she thought the man paid Rippon for her hair. Officers are waiting to check surveillance video from the hotel.
