Updo for long hair and hairstyles can be used for all kinds of events including formal, wedding, prom, party or holiday events.

My friends at I.C.O.N. BEAUTY LAB in Los Angeles opened their doors and let us film them doing a few SIMPLE and EASY Updos to help you give your clients the look they want for holiday parties!

In part one, Abdon Vargas shows you an Updo made with Influential Styling. With Influential Styling, the stylist looks to the past for inspiration and adds a modern twist or flair to today’s hair fashions. Not only does influential styling allow you to AVOID 3 things that hairdressers RELY on and which consumers HATE, but it also gives you creative freedom when working with new styles.

In part two, expert make-up artist Jasmine Dashtizad explains how to quickly and easily transform your day look into a fabulous evening look. Jasmine’s technique allows you to layer make-up onto your existing make-up in less than 5 minutes.

It’s All Politics With This U...

We’re not sure who would want to recreate this creepy photo from Ohio, but a salon in Brooklyn is offering its own unique twist on the now-iconic (for better or for worse!) Sarah Palin updo: for every customer who comes in for a Sarah Palin updo, the salon – Medusa – will donate the $75 price to the Obama campaign.

An interesting combination, although some will no doubt write it off as an ironic prank of sorts. Would someone really go in for a Palin updo, just to get the salon to donate $75? And would a Palin supporter participate, knowing a donation was being made the opposing candidate? It’ll be interesting to see who – if anyone – takes the salon up on their offer for scissors, hair and a unique updo.

And what about the hair “styles” of the other candidates:  Obama’s monastic crop to Biden’s hair plugs to the McCombover — should the salon offer takes on these as well? We doubt any guys would want to take part!

Put Those Scissors to Use!

We headed down to Hair Studio 28 in San Jose, CA this week, to film main stylist, Fernando Guzman hard at work, and demonstrating several techniques for our new e-learning platform for stylists, The Cutting Edge Hairshow.
Fernando put his scissors to use on his model’s hair as he taught an Innovative Comb Technique for doing a super-fast a-line cut.
He also put his scissors aside and focused on a fast and easy Updo technique without flat ironing, curling. He then taught a neat finger technique for doing the updo.

Dad Donates Hair to Make Son’...

With a “snip snip” from a stylist’s scissors hair that had been growing for 25 years was chopped off. Orange County, California resident, Siosala Tuitahi, a native of Tonga, hadn’t had his hair cut in 25 years – and his son, 8-year-old Nipa, had never had his hair cut at all.

So why the need for scissors hair cutting, and stylists’ shears? Nipon is starting at a new school that requires hair to be at least one foot shorter than his was.

 

So Nipa’s Father decided cut his hair for the first time in 25 years out of solidarity with his son. After a final long-haired family portrait, they visited a Santa Ana salon Tuesday.

Both of them donated their former ponytails to Locks of Love, a charity for children who have lost their hair due to illness.
